PUASA IS FINALLY HERE !!!

Contrary to belief … I actually love the month of Ramadhan !!!

Dilly fasts so as her buddy … I fast along with her and it just makes the experience of looking forward to Hari Raya Aidilfitri that much more exciting !

It also makes the daily experience of fasting from sun up till sun down very rewarding with our annual trek around the Klang Valley in search of the ultimate pasar Ramadhan !!!

So today was day #1 of fasting and we head to the one in Bangsar ...

… I’m not sure if it’s 1st day blues or the fact that my expectations were too high …

… Bangsar’s pasar Ramadhan did NOT rock !!!

… it lacks variety … it lacks atmosphere and did I mention it lacks variety … no kuih-muih … did I mention it lacks variety !!!

IT LACKS VARIETY !!!

Overall … we could only give it a rating of 1 out of 5 lemangs.

We’re heading to PJ Section 14 tomorrow … look out for my post !!!

  1. LEMANG-Essential Food of Hari Raya in Malaysia.
What is Lemang?Glutinous rice, with coconut milk with a bit of salt, cooked in banana leaf lined bamboo over a wooden fire.Hari Raya for Malays in Malaysia will not be complete without this, and it is usually eaten with rendang,a dry spicy curry dish, made with beef or chicken. It is very fulfilling, very filling in the stomach and I like it a lot!!!

  2. Lemang,a traditional Malaysian food, made of glutinuos rice and coconut milk and cooked in a hollowed bamboo stick lined with banana leaves,is originated from the Iban people of Borneo.

    Ingredients:
    1.3 pieces,cut bamboo about 16" long each
    2.young banana leaves(Puchok daun pisang)
    3.600g pulut rice
    4.1 coconut.

    Method.
a)Soak pulut in water overnight.Drain and mix with first pressing coconut milk and a bit of salt.
b)Insert the banana leaves into bamboo and fill the bamboo with the pulut.Do not compact the pulut.
c)Tie banana leaves round open end of bamboo to seal it,and then cook the pulut by placing bamboo horizontally over a slow charcoal fire.
d)After about 1/2 hour, remove banana leaves round the open end of bamboo and using the stem of the banana leaf, sprinkle more coconut milk.
e)Re-cover open end and continue cooking the pulut over the charcoal fire until cooked.Cooking time takes about 1 to 1 1/2hours.
f)Remove cooked Lemang Rice by knocking the bamboo on a table. The Lemang Rice will fall out by itself. If does not come out by itself, split bamboo open.
